Hurricane Ike Disaster Response, October 12-18
On September 13th, Hurricane Ike slammed into the Texas Gulf Coast, destroying homes and creating unspeakable damage in the Houston/Galveston area and throughout much of East Texas. In response, Travis Oaks is sending a team of people to Vidor, Texas (northwest of Beaumont) to help serve broken homes and hurting families for the cause of Christ during this difficult time.

Here is how you can be a part of this relief effort:

PRAY
Pray for the families affected by the storm and those who the Travis Oaks team will go and minister to on the mission trip. Pray that the Gospel will be preached boldly and clearly to those who are in need.

GIVE
There is still a tremendous need for supplies such as food, first aid, and toiletries in the affected areas which we are visiting. Over the weeks leading up to the trip, Travis Oaks is collecting these various items in blue bins placed around the church building. Supplies may also be dropped off at the church office during normal hours. Your small donation of supplies can make a HUGE impact in the lives of those in need.

GO
Join us as we go to minister and work first-hand with those affected by the storm. On Sunday, October 12th, a group of men and women from the church will leave for Vidor to help with local relief efforts and will be returning on Saturday, October 18th. There is NO COST for this trip, except for transportation, and all meals and sleeping arrangements are provided. During this trip, you will have the option of working in any of these three areas:
  • Cooking and cleaning for relief crews
  • Administrative work at the command center or at the newly-opened warehouse
  • Helping mud-out crews as they clean flooded homes (this is the most urgent need ot date)

We would like for you to come with us, even if you can't stay for the entire week. There are several groups that will be leaving Lago Vista mid-week and others that will be returning mid-week. If you are interested in going, please contact the church office or Jo Markham (jmarkham@austin.rr.com) to let us know of your availability and the missions team will find a way to plug you in to this vital relief effort.
